Important Note Regarding e28T-3 Easy-Fire Kiln on Single-Phase Power:

When powered by 240 volts, 1 phase, the e28T-3 kiln is rated for Cone 8. However, when the power supply is 208 volts, 1 phase, its rating drops to Cone 5.

It's essential to note that a kiln's cone rating should be significantly higher than the cone you intend to fire to. Attempting to fire to cone 5 or 6 in a kiln rated for cone 8 can significantly shorten the lifespan of its elements, particularly under heavy loads.

If you find yourself answering yes to any of the following questions, it may be wise to consider a more robust option like the eQ2827-3 by L&L Kilns. This model offers greater power (measured in watts) in its single-phase versions compared to the e28T-3, ensuring consistent performance even up to Cone 10 firing. (Contact us for a quote if you are interested in this kiln, or another model not listed)

  1. Do you frequently fire to Cone 5 or 6, at least twice a month?
  2. Do you typically stack more than 3 layers of kiln shelves in your firings?
  3. Are you able to accommodate a larger circuit breaker? (80 amp breaker for 240 volts, 1 phase OR 90 amp breaker for 208 volts, 1 phase)

Please note: If the maximum circuit breaker allowed is a 60 amp breaker on 240 volts, 1 phase power, you have two options. Either consider downsizing to a smaller L&L model such as the e23T-3, or be prepared for more frequent element replacements. Another option is to opt for the Quad element upgrade, which can extend the lifespan of the elements but won't increase the kiln's power output, potentially resulting in longer firing times. (Contact us to inquire about the Quad element upgrade)

Electrical Specifications for Kilns

The table above outlines the available electrical specification choices for this kiln. It is crucial to select the appropriate wiring specifications when ordering the kiln to ensure its proper functioning. These specifications depend on the power supply to which you'll be connecting the kiln. Consult with your electrician to determine the correct voltage and phase for your specific kiln model. The voltage/phase selection directly impacts the amperage draw of the kiln and dictates the size of the necessary breaker. Remember that the kiln requires a breaker rated at 20% higher than the actual amperage draw. Ensure that your power supply can adequately support the kiln you intend to purchase. Additionally, the chart indicates whether the kiln requires a NEMA plug configuration or if it must be directly wired. Confirmation of voltage and phase selection is required in writing for all kiln orders.
