Info: 18 gauge kanthal wire with a resistance of 0.5290/ft.

Size: Price is per foot of wire.

Using it: Kanthal wire is a high-resistance iron-chromium-aluminum (FeCrAl) alloy used as a heating element in kilns; scientifically, it works by resistive (Joule) heating, where electrical energy passing through the wire is converted into heat due to its high electrical resistance, while the aluminum in the alloy forms a protective alumina (Al₂O₃) oxide layer on the surface that prevents further oxidation and allows it to maintain strength at temperatures up to ~1400 °C (2550 °F).

Thinner gauges → higher resistance per inch → heat up faster but carry less current.

Thicker gauges → lower resistance → can handle more current and generate more total heat over longer lengths.

In kilns, common element sizes are 14 AWG to 18 AWG Kanthal A‑1 or D‑series, chosen to balance temperature, voltage, and longevity.
